Course overview

This course provides role-based cybersecurity training designed to support U.S. Coast Guard maritime cybersecurity training requirements described in 33 CFR § 101.650(d)(2)(i)–(ii). It is intended for designated Key Personnel with responsibilities for cybersecurity oversight, decision-making, and compliance within IT and OT environments on regulated vessels and facilities.

WHAT THIS COURSE COVERS
This course addresses the following cybersecurity training topics required for Key Personnel:
  • Roles and responsibilities for managing cybersecurity risk and supporting compliance
  • Interpretation and use of authoritative threat information sources (e.g., USCG, CISA)
  • Identification, classification, and escalation of cybersecurity incidents
  • Decision-making and coordination during cybersecurity events
  • Procedures for reporting incidents and supporting regulatory compliance

WHO THIS COURSE IS FOR
This course is intended for individuals designated as “Key Personnel” by the owner or operator of an MTSA-regulated facility or vessel.

This designation is based on responsibilities, not job title, and may include personnel who:
  • Have cybersecurity responsibilities or oversight of IT or remotely accessible OT systems
  • Support cyber incident response, recovery, or decision-making
  • Provide management, operational, or technical support to regulated vessels or facilities

Key Personnel are not limited to IT personnel and may include:
  • Security officers (FSO, VSO, CSO, CySO)
  • Terminal and vessel management personnel
  • IT and OT support personnel
  • Full-time, part-time, temporary employees, and contractors

TRAINING SCOPE
This course provides role-based cybersecurity training for designated Key Personnel. It does not replace Cybersecurity Plan training, cybersecurity awareness training, or operational technology (OT) cybersecurity training that may be required for certain roles under applicable regulations.

Annual refresher required
Cybersecurity training for Key Personnel must be completed at least annually. This course provides training valid for the year in which it is completed.

What is the deadline for initial cybersecurity awareness training?
Initial cybersecurity awareness training must be completed no later than January 12, 2026, in accordance with U.S. Coast Guard maritime cybersecurity implementation timelines.
Does this training need to be repeated annually?
Yes. U.S. Coast Guard maritime cybersecurity requirements require cybersecurity awareness training to be conducted at least annually and whenever there are significant changes to systems, operations, or personnel roles that could affect cybersecurity risk.

Personnel must complete refresher training each year to maintain compliance and ensure training reflects current threats, regulatory updates, and agency guidance.
Does the certificate meet regulatory recordkeeping requirements?
Yes. Upon successful completion, learners receive a certificate of completion that documents the training date, course duration, training description, and learner name, consistent with U.S. Coast Guard cybersecurity training recordkeeping expectations.
Can organizations purchase training for multiple learners?
Yes. Group and organizational licensing options are available for organizations purchasing training for multiple learners and managing enrollment across their workforce.
